Hi,
like said above by Milton it depends on what kind of job your looking for. From what I understand is that you are a developer. If that is the case you should have a look at the MCPD and MCSD certification tracks. MTA certifications started as entry exams for students, but they are now also open for non-students. I cannot say if they are worth the money. I have done most of them myself, but MCTS, MCPD, and other Microsoft certification are more known in the industry, because MTAs exists just since 2 to 3 years. If I were in your position I would not take one of the MTA exams and concentrate on one of the higher level certifications.

Why not first ask yourself what kind of job you are looking for? What kind of technologies you are interested in? You may not end up doing Microsoft Certification. So play around with various technologies, make yourself comfortable in understanding the underlying before deciding further.
Certification ranging from Developer (.NET Framework, Javascript etc) to IT Pro type such as Administration of Exchange, SharePoint... Too many products to choose from, so you have to narrow down to what you actually like to handle.
Cheers.

yes you should follow as miltongoh and Horizon said.
I would like to add one thing more that you should start with basic level.
MCSD is a good way to start and capture the new things earlier than others.
MCTS and MCPD certifications are going to be expired but in current market, these are still valuable.
If you are interested in MCSD exams then you can get some helping material.
