  • Hi All,

I bought a copy of Win 7 Ultimate after the beta expired.  Suddenly last night it says it's not genuine.  I download the diagnostic tool.  Here is the response:

  • Your key is what is know as an MSDN key, many of these keys were sold through ebay and other outlets against the licensing terms of the seller. Please read the following sticky. You only have 45 days from the date of purchase to file a claim with EBAY, sites have different policies, I urge you to follow any legal avenues available to you to seek a refund from the seller.

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/genuinewindows7/thread/a2444f34-0aff-4f29-a8ac-67e28b0c0285

Read the sticky. You can attempt to validate windows at www.microsoft.com/genuine and when it fails pursue the links to remedy the matter, and you will find windows at a reduced cost.

  • Thanks for the help.

I went back to my ebay account and it was in feb I bought the retail box.

    So no 45 days.

Wow this really sucks.  I'll lodged a dispute with PayPal and sent the seller and message on ebay.

    Cheers

  • Also the weird thing is that the box was sealed.  How was this possible to begin with?
    Saturday, May 29, 2010 1:45 AM
  • There have been some very convincing counterfeit products sold, some have even made it into retail stores.

  • Really?!?  My box and discs are exactly the same as a friends who has bought it from a retails store.  And I've checked against all the images on the MS website.  The ones that are legit that is.

Darin Smith - Can you confirm 100% that my key is MSDN??

To be honest I have a feeling there is something more to this...

  • I am sure there is more to it, I hope MS is pushing investigations but I think that most of this is coming from overseas which will make it much more difficult.

  • I have the problem. I have been using since feb. The error coming up last night which is telling me mine is not genuine copy. I have a original box with seal Microsoft sticker. It wasn't open before i open for sure. so the key won't be used by someone else.

  • Greenprince,

Can you please start your own thread if you want personalized responses and for Darin to verify your key for you?

That said, your key is an MSDN key but we can best advise you on how and why this happened in your own thread, please post this report, where and how you purchased it so we can give you the best advice possible.

    Carl
