windows 7 build 7601 this copy is not genuine as well RRS feed

  • as with so many others, my copy is now not genuine all of a sudden. Any help would be appreciated

  • Please observe announcement 1 at the top of this forum page and print your MGADiag report for us.  If you purchased Windows online, contact the Microsoft Store where you opened your account. Several users are reporting that the Microsoft Store had a problem this week causing this sort of problem. The Store is resolving the issue.

  • For those people who install SP1 and get this error, do the following:

    Step 1: copy down the 25 character product ID that is found on your windows CD or the windows sticker on your computer.

    Step 2: Go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> system

    Step 3: On the very bottom of the page, there is a "Change the product key" link, click on it and enter your 25 character product key

    Step 4: End of frustration

    It seems SP1 will disabled all windows activation and you need to re-activate windows. It took me 3 days to figure it out.

    You have a typo in step 1.  "product ID" sb "product key".  Obviously the Product ID is quite different. 

    In any case, your comment has no relevance in this thread.  The issue cited by the OP is probably resulting from a glitch at the Microsoft Store.  It is affecting many this weekend.  Their keys have been inadvertently blocked and your procedure would not help them since ... well ...  the key is blocked. 

    In addition, the OP probably bought Windows online so there would not be any CD case to check (another typo since you said "windows CD"). 

    If he bought online any sticker on his computer would be irrelevant.  The COA product key would be for a different version and edition of Windows.

    If you had debugged your logic as well as you do your programs you would not have posted.

     

    Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

  • I just wanted to update this thread.

    There appears to have been an issue with the Product key Activation/Validation servers that only effected a subset of Digitally Distributed Product keys.

    This issue has been corrected and user that were affected by this should no longer be seeing a Non-Genuine/Key Blocked error.

    If you do still see this error please try the following:

    1) Reboot and then re-try Activating and/or Validating.

    2) If you still see the issue, please contact Microsoft Assisted Support (at one of the below URLs)
