I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with my laptop plugged in to the charger. Regular scans are performed with Windows Defender and Norton Antivirus 2009, no problems reported. While in the middle of performing various activities form word processing to playing a video game to running a virus scan my laptop has taken to shutting itself off lately. My laptop is less than 9 months old and has been well cared for. I have upgraded the 1GB memory supplied by Acer to 2GB some 3 months ago with no apparent problems. I've never experienced this power-off trouble until the last few weeks. If there is a potential overheating problem is there diagnostic software in Windows Vista Home Premium that will indicate such? I ask this because I do not use one of the fan laptop bases I've seen and never had a problem until recently? What would you do? Oh, when I power the computer back on after it rudely shuts itself off the screen gives me the inane message that the computer has unexpectedly shut off and asks if I would like to start Windows in Safe Mode.
