Sidebar-type fuctionality on Live Desktop would be nice! RRS feed

  • General discussion

  •  I envisage that when applications get enabled on Mesh most of the things that I do day-to-day on the web (e.g. email, calendar editing, feed reading, twittering) will be done on the Mesh. I'm looking forward to that.

I don't really want to have to come out of Live Desktop into an "apps" area in order to see this type of stuff though. It would be nice if the information (e.g. My daily agenda, unread emails, unread blog entries, latest twitters) that  I want to see were available to me on Live Desktop. In Vista today this type of info can be provided by the Sidebar. I'm not a huge fan of the Sidebar for various reasons (I've turned it off) but I do think that putting pertinent information on the desktop is useful and its something I want to see in Live Desktop.

What do people think? Would you like to see a Sidebar on Live Desktop? Should we drop all mentions of sidebars given their perceived lack of success in Vista? Do you want to see your email/calendar etc... on the Live Desktop?

    Any comments welcome.

  • It sounds like a good idea to me. On the other hand, instead of or in addition the the system tray notifier on a client PC, I think a Sidebar gadget that displays the Live Mesh information in the Sidebar (for those of us that do use it) is a good idea.

  • I would also agree with this idea, it would greatly decrease the space requirement and tie the sidebar to the news/functionality.
