Money (Sunset) how to use multiple accounts? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Moved a computer up to Windows 7.  Downloaded Microsoft Money Sunset.  User previously was using Money and had two accounts, backed up.

When we add one account, it's fine; the data is there.

When we add the second account, the first one disappears.  The second account is fine too, it's just that the first one disappears.  Naturally, if we re-add the first account, the second one disappears.  Etc...

What are we doing wrong?  Anyone?

  • The first thing to check is that your Money file (probably named MyMoney.mny) is in your "My Documents" folder, not in the Program Files folder.

Next, you say "add one account".  If the user was previously using Money and had both accounts in the old Money file, then s/he should be able to open that Money file with Sunset and have both accounts show up just as they were with the old version of Money.

If you were doing something different, post back with details.

  • Sometimes when people say "account" they mean Money file (*.mny). In Money, the thing that is normally called an account is a thing that appears in the Account List.  I will presume that is what you mean unless you say otherwise.

Copy your existing *.mny and *.mbf files to other media. Then open Money by double-clicking your newest Money file in Windows Explorer. Does that get you in to see the accounts you had before?

Look at the Account List and un-tick SortAccountListBy->HideClosedAccounts if it is selected. Do the two accounts now show?
