"Edit post" deletes existing content RRS feed

  • Question

  • This began quite recently (in the last few days I think).  When I click on "Edit" to edit one of my posts, the edit window opens up, but the window is empty, all the text of my post has been deleted.  If I cancel the edit, my original text remains in the post, but if I type in the edit window and click "Submit", my original text is replaced by the new text.

I'm posting using IE7 under Windows XP.  Is anyone else seeing this?

  • I have been known to be impatient, so I went to an old thread I posted in, and waited for a couple of minutes after the page appeared to have finished loading.  I still got an empty window when I clicked edit.

  • Which thread?

  • I see it under IE6:

    1) Post "Moo    Cow" (with a tab in between the words)
    2) Highlight the line
    3) Click code thingy
    4) Click Insert
    5) Submit
    6) Click edit. (normal edit appears, message is empty and there are no buttons)
    7) Press F5 (page is refreshes)
    8) Click edit for message on bottom (it has text, normal edit appears under original post, message is empty but there are buttons)
    9) Click submit (error message box is displayed: Body must be 4 to 60000 characters long.)
    10) Click OK (makes message box go away)
    11) Press F5 (refreshes page, Message appears again with text.)
    12) Goto step 8.

  • We've had other folks also experiencing the same behavior. We have an existing bug on this and we're going through some repro steps to see if we can find an isolated pattern.

Forgot to mention that this works fine in FF 3.x. IE is exhibiting this problem.

Btw, I may have a repro on this bug. I'll ping Forums team on this.

  • Short from Brian's repro steps, the post with the code snippet I left behind in the linked thread exhibits this behavior in IE7.

  • The other day when I clicked reply three or four text entry boxes appeared.

  • Our dev is looking into this issue. A work-around is to use FF for now.

    Thanks.

OK, that thing is fixed. But *finding* where the edit box keeps jumping to in IE6 is fun.

Enter, tab, backspace all seem to make the window move or the page scroll.
