  • If the COA sticker is for Windows 7 Pro, then you need to change the Key to the one on the sticker...

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment),  using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

  • This looks very likely to be an MSDN Key - from where did you purchase this license?

  • My lenovo laptop came bundled with windows 7 license

  • The installed Key is NOT one which shipped with the machine.

It looks to me as if the machine either shipped with WIndows 8 Core edition iinnstalled, or withour Windows at all.

Is there a COA sticker for Windows 7 on the case? - or a Windows 8 sticker??

From where did you buy the machine?

  • You are right.

According to my boss, the laptop was originally pre-installed with Win 8 but he asked them to replace it with Win 7.

I have a COA sticker for Win 7 beneath the laptop & I think he bought the laptop from local store.
