Windows PE(Vista64) /HP computer(AMI bios) / HP personal Media Drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to figure out the best way to approach this problem (I am not computer illiterate, but still green).

Perhaps I am paranoid, but the biggest problem I can't control would be a catastrophic hard drive failure. That said, I cannot boot from the HP personal media drive (or setup a RAID 1) because the bios does not recognize - nor will it boot from a USB source (this is how the bios views this device).

From my understanding, I can create a windows PE startup DVD (which I can access from the bios). Will windows PE recognize the personal media drive? P.S. Vista recognizes the personal media drive as a local fixed disk not as a USB drive).

If it can, I could do a full backup of the harddrive to the personal media drive, swap in a new drive and restore to the new from the personal media drive
