Send and receive faxes in CRM

Question
-
I had a question posed to me that I wasn't sure of the answer. The question was can we send, and more importantly to my organization, receive faxes from within CRM 2011? We have the capability to send/receive faxes with Outlook, so i believe our fax is integrated with our Exchange server. Is this possible?

exchage server does not send faxes nativity . You may be using some other software or will have.

What about receiving faxes? Our current system uses a MultiTech FaxFinder fax server in conjunction with MS Exchange. They come into an inbox, so I would think it would be accessible somehow.Friday, September 19, 2014 12:21 PM

You can test your self as no one else has similar envioronment. If the fax is coming in Inbox then it will also come after installting outlook client.

I'm not sure I follow what you mean in the second sentence.Friday, September 19, 2014 3:34 PM

If you have the email router installed, you can use that incoming mailbox address for the fax as a Queue in CRM so all those fax-to-email faxes get to CRM. Someone will still have to manually map those faxes to the proper Account/Opportunity, or what-have-you, but that's a start that is out of the box.

While digging through the SDK files, I found the following entry in the "message-entity support for plug-ins" file
Message Name Primary Entity Secondary Entity Message Availability Entity Supported Deployment Retrieve Fax NULL Both Both RetrieveMultiple Fax NULL Both Both RetrievePrincipalAccess Fax NULL Both Both RetrieveSharedPrincipalsAndAccess Fax NULL Both Both Is this just referencing the Fax activity? I also went through all the xml files in the sdk/bin folder and all the object references (I think that's what they are called) are just for the fax activity.

Yes, that's just the Fax activity. There's no special sauce to actually receive or send faxes, you'd need connectivity to a fax server to do something more.
