  • You don't.
With Live Mesh, you can remotely access a machine that is part of your Mesh. That means that the machine is logged into Live Mesh with *your* LiveID. You cannot share your PC via remote desktop with another ID using Live Mesh remote desktop functionality.

  • So if I want to give remote access to another person for a computer already in my mesh. I need to run the software on their machine & they will need to log in with my Id.
    OR
Run the software on my machine, log in with their Id, add my computer to their mesh.
In either instance can the other person have their own mesh (different id) that doesn't include my computer without confusing the systems?

    Thanks!

  • Yes, these would both be valid options.
The confusion would only be for the user. :-) If you choose to not have live mesh log you in automatically at startup, you can log in with either LiveID to join one Mesh or another.
When logged in with LiveID "A" the PC is joined to the Live Mesh belonging to LiveID "A" and will not see the shared folders of LiveID "B" and vice-versa.

My recommendation would be to create a new LiveID that you will share with the other individual. Set both computers to log in with that LiveID. Each of you could also have another LiveID for Live Mesh that is used on other computers. You can then invite the primary ID to share folders from these other LiveMesh LiveIDs and manage the sync settings to not sync with the PCs you don't want the folders to sync with. It isn't perfect, but it allows you the remote desktop capabilities and sets up a primary LiveID for both of the PCs you wish to have remote access between.

Rather than trying to use a hammer as a screwdriver by figuring out a way to do this with Mesh, you might want to consider using MS Remote Assistance, or Microsoft SharedView (which allows up to 15 simultaneous users) to do the remote control.

I've found that Remote Assistance seems to offer the best performance - but there are times when SharedView is better.

The downside with either of these is that you may need to monkey around configuring router NAT and firewall settings to get it to work.
