To install and run SQL server on a 32-bit Vista machine, it has to be Busiess or higher (the home version is not supported), to view the rest of the requirements for installing SQL 2008, see here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
Personally, I would install it on either a virtual machine or another test machine so that any changes/problems would be affect my main machine. You can run SQL 2008 in a virtual environment on your Vista machine, again if you have Vista business or aove (home is not supported) with Virtual PC 2007: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=04D26402-3199-48A3-AFA2-2DC0B40A73B6&displaylang=en and the SQL 2008 pre-configured VHD: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5CF93946-02EF-4783-B173-C59407ED5CCB&displaylang=en
However one thing the above won't help you with in the actually install of SQL (as it's already done for you).
Hope this helps :)

in my opinion ,you can post "Is it possible to run sql server 2008 on my windows vista 32 bit machine?" on this forum
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver
YOu can get more information ,and more useful answer .
Besides ,as ken said ,You can run SQL 2008 in a virtual environment on your Vista machine,
I think ken's way is useful for u.
If it could not help you ,I think you'd better post your question on the above forums.- Proposed as answer by Maryloveus Monday, October 12, 2009 9:11 AM
