How to hide a particular feature shown in Administration sub area under Settings? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I want to know how to hide a particular feature shown in Administration sub area under Settings? My user can't see the System settings feature at all. Any idea what access level/permission has caused this?

    Please let me know ASAP.

    Regards,

    Anwesha

  • Hi Anwesha,

I can't test this atm but that might be something that System Administrator or System Customizer can do, but why would you like your users to change the System Settings?

  • Hi Rickard,

    Thanks for the early response.

The reason I want the users to change the System setting is because I am after a particular Setting - as mentioned below. Now that you have mentioned that only the Admin will have access to chnage it, would the change by me (as an Admin) change it for the whole system? The thing is we have recently updated the IE version from 8 to IE 11 and the CRM application crashes when th user tries to access it. So I found these setting related to IE, which I think they don't have access to - as you rightly said.

    • Check the option 'Load the page on the latest check box for load in the latest version of internet explorer' is marked or not – To do this, go to CRM Settings>Administration>System Settings>Customization>Load in the latest version of internet explorer.

    Let me know.

    Regards,

  • Hi Anwesha,

Yes, the system settings are pushed to the whole system. What version of CRM are you using and what sort of errors are IE 11 causing?

  • Hi Rickard,

    Thanks again.

We are using CRM 2011 (IE 8 was being used till noW) and recently had an update to IE 11. The users have reported that the CRM for Outlook crashes, and doesn't open when they try to access it with the related URL. I researched a bit and and got to know there is a System Setting (In the Customization tab we have the option to load pages in the most recent version of IE plus a Compatibilty setting where we can add the CRM url . These two settings were available for IE.

Overall, is this weird behavior expected on an upgrade to IE 11 with CRM 2011? A lot of blogs talk about it too.

    Regards,

    Anwesha

  • Hi Anwesha,

There are indeed issues with IE 11 and CRM 2011, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2935509

You need to update it to at least UR 17. It MIGHT work if you make sure that the CRM is run in compatibility mode, but that's not certain. Also, if you have JS that uses references to ActiveX-objects these will fail in IE 11.

  • Thanks very much Rickard. I will check if the compatibility mode works and if not, UR 17 could be the solution.. Thanks again :)
