accessing a wcf service in visual basic express 2008 RRS feed

  • please will you be able to assist me step by step to get this lesson working 1.On the File menu, point to Add and then click New Project.(i see only new project , not point to add) 4. In the Add Service Reference dialog box, add the URL of the WCF service.(it is a empty box what do i need to load their ) urgent pls.......thank you.

  • 1. Yes, you are right, there is only File->New Project, no "Add". Presumably whoever wrote those instructions was thinking about adding a new project to an existing solution, rather than starting a new project from scratch.

    4. In the empty box you need to type in the URL of whatever service you wish to reference from your VB Program. You need to have this service available BEFORE you attempt to add it to your new project. If it is a commercial service, whoever is providing the service should give you the URL (such as http://mycompany.com/myservice/whatever.svc). If you wrote the service yourself using Visual Studio, and you hosted the WCF servcice inside a web site (which is the easiest way to do it), then right-click on the .svc file and select "view in browser". Then copy the URL from the address bar in the browser.
