Windows XP Activation issue RRS feed

  • I want to upgrade my CPU, will my windows installtion still be good at Microsoft so I can still update software? I just installed XP this week and updated at Microsoft this week first time on this new computer.

    Please refer to the Certificate of Authenticity to find out what kind of XP license you have.  Alos, you can read your End User Licensing Agreement:  click Start>Run, type winver and click OK, then click the link to read the licensing terms.

    And what do you mean by "CPU"?  If you mean the processor chip, you are permitted to upgrade.  However, if upgrading to the processor you want requires replacement of the motherboard, then if you have an OEM license for XP you are not permitted to use the old license on the new motherboard.  If you have a retail license, you can upgrade the processor and motherboard as desired.
