window Explorer has encounter a problem and need to close

Hi there
I am running windows XP Home edition. it was running all this time nicely but from 2 december 2007 I tried to open folders on my hard drive and I recieve a message windows explorer has encounter a problem we are sorry for any inconvenient.
when I click to check the error description this is what I get
AppName explorer.exe
AppVer 6.0.2900.3156
ModName unknown
ModVer 0.0.0.0
offset 00000000

please could someone tell me what to do?
