  • Question

  • I have had Windows 7 since last Fall, where I bought Windows 7 Pro at the college at which I work. I installed it on my laptop, which had previously been running Vista. It's been running fine, until yesterday, when I started getting notifications of this Windows not being genuine. I ran your diagnostic utility, and it seems to indicate that this Windows is indeed genuine. So what's going on?

  • Your installed copy of Windows 7 Professional is genuine.  However, your installed copies of Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage and Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 are non-genuine.  From your MGA Report:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage - 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 - 100 Genuine
Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007 - 100 Genuine
    OGA Version: N/A, 0x80070002

Both copies of Microsoft Office are non-genuine, Volume License versions whose product keys were reported lost, stolen or misused by the original owner.  Consumers should only have "retail versions" of Microsoft Office installed.

Please uninstall both Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage and Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 and purchase a genuine copy of Office 2007.

  • Hello Ken,

Your issue appears to be related to the line in the Diagnostic Report that reads:

    File Scan Data-->
    File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\sppcomapi.dll[hr = 0x80070714]
    File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\systemcpl.dll[6.1.7600.16385]
    File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\en-us\user32.dll.mui[6.1.7600.16385]

This means the file's Hash (think fingerprint) is different then what is listed in Windows 7's System Cataloge and this usually means the files have been Tampered, Modified or have become Corrupt. .

To resolve the issue, you need to repair the damage .

First try repairing Windows using System Restore:

    1)    Reboot Windows
    2)    Click the ‘Start’ button
    3)    In the Start Search field, type: System Restore and hit “Enter” keyboard key
    4)    Select "Choose Different Restore Point", Put a check in the box that says "Show restore points older than 5 days", select the restore point that corresponds to the date Before you first noticed the issue.
    5)    Click the "Next" button.
    6)    Reboot back into Normal mode

try doing a System Scan. The scan will look for bad Vista files and will attempt to repair them, if possible.

    1)    Click the Start button
    2)    Type: cmd
    3)    Right-click and select 'Run as Administratorr'
    4)    In the CMD window, type: sfc /scannow
    5)    Reboot twice and see if that resolves the issue.

If neither of these sets of steps resolves the issue, would you re-run the Diagnostic Report and post it so I can see what has changed.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

  • These messages first appeared immediately after I installed Windows update KB970013--which, I see, was an update to WAT:

    Update for Windows 7 (KB971033)

    Installation date: ‎2/‎27/‎2010 4:40 PM

    Installation status: Successful

    Update type: Important

This update to Windows Activation Technologies detects activation exploits and tampering to key Windows system files. These exploits try to bypass regular Windows activation and are sometimes included within counterfeit copies of Windows.

    More information:

Perhaps I should just uninstall that update?
