Your Windows Live ID can't be changed at this time.

Question
-
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not but...I've had a hotmail account for years now, and I have it as my windows live ID. A few years ago I switched to using gmail as my primary email address. My windows live id is linked to things I still use, like my Xbox. There's purchases and data and such tied to the windows live id that I want to keep, but I would like to switch my live id to my gmail address. However everytime I click on 'change' in my windows live profile, it gives me this "Your Windows Live ID can't be changed at this time." I've tried on and off to change the windows live id over the past couple of years but it always gives me that. Is there any way I can change my windwos live id from my hotmail account to my gmail account without losing all the things tied to my windows live id?Thursday, May 24, 2012 5:06 PM

Live ID support: https://support.live.com/Default.aspx?scrx=1
One thing we can do is switch the Live IDs on two profiles. To do that, click "Site Feedback" at the bottom of this page to open a ticket.
Thanks!

I'm a little confused. So if I go and make my gmail address into a windows Live ID [Is that possible?] I can then ask them to switch my hotmail ID with my gmail ID and still retain all my history and info from my hotmail address?Monday, June 4, 2012 2:01 PM

I went to that link, couldn't find "Site Feedback" at the bottom, so I clicked "Feedback", entered something like "I need my two Windows Live ID's swapped" and sent it. When can I expect a response of some sort?
Sorry. I wasn't clear enough. It's the "Site Feedback" link at the bottom of this page. I'm not sure what they'll do with your request at the Live Support site. When you send the request here, make sure you include your two profile URLs and the two emails you use to log into Live ID for those profiles.
After you send the request, check back here later this week. I'll double check and make sure your request was received.
Thanks!

Yes, it's possible. Yes for the second question as well. As I mentioned above, when you send the request here, make sure you include your two profile URLs and the two emails you use to log into Live ID for those profiles. And make sure you click the "Site Feedback" link at the bottom of this page to make your request.
Thanks!

Hello again, thank you for clarifying. Last night, I sent my "feedback" with my request along with the required information. Where do I need to look for a notification of progress?
Edit: Uh, there's been a strange development. I went and clicked "change" on my Live ID that it previously wouldn't allow me to rename (because it's hotmail), but this time it started to allow me to continue. When I tried to rename it to my gmail address like I want it, it understandably said that it was already in use. So I changed the gmail Live ID to a new address, then tried once again to rename the formerly mentioned Live ID to my gmail address, and now it says "There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later."
What should I do next? :S

That's a Live ID support issue, so you'd need to ask them.
Over here you can change where your email alerts go. Just click My Settings on the right.
Or you can swap IDs (with the process I mentioned).
Because you filled out the Site Feedback form, you should get an email from the forums support team.
Wait a few days to get your email (it will be sent to the email you gave when filling out your support ticket) and then come back here if you haven't heard from them. Then I'll dig deeper.
Thanks!

Note that I cannot find "Site Feedback" on the pages in the TechNet branding. Try removing "technet" from the URL. That will give you the Microsoft branding (on forums like this one, that exist on multiple branded platforms).
Thanks!
