  • Sorry to read about the stolen computer. :-(

You can install OneCare and activate using your subscription LiveID. You can make the new PC a hub and then from the Manage your OneCare Circle function, you can remove the old computer from the subscription, if desired.

If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated on the first computer, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate with.

  • My home was burglarized in August and I was just able to replace one of the two laptops that were stolen in that event.  I just downloaded OneCare again and activated my account and decided to go ahead and run this pc as the hub to see if I could see my other pc's.  My circle shows that one of my stolen computers just updated on Friday, is there anyway to reach out to that computer and somehow find its whereabouts?

  • JustJeanie, if the theft of your PC has been reported to the police and there is a case file on it, the police must contact Microsoft to request the IP address(es) of the PC as logged on the OneCare servers. There is a special law enforcement number for them to call - they will know it, I don't. They need to provide legal documentation requesting the information and will need your subscription information to make the request.

  • Microsoft assures me they are unable to trace the ip adress of a stolen computer at this time for the owner OR FOR THE  POLICE.

If the computer is actively running OneCare using your subscription ID, that information is available to Microsoft and can be obtained by the police following a legal procedure for requesting that data. Whoever told you that it is not available is wrong *unless* the PC is not running OneCare using your LiveID, in which case they are correct that it isn't available.

Note, once again, that *you* cannot request this data. Only law enforcement with the appropriate legal paperwork and using the Microsoft Law Enforcement contact line (no, I don't know what that is, law enforcement agencies apparently do).
