Reinstall on PC or Server?

Question
-
I'm brand new to this, and someone else did the actual installation of the server. In Home Network Health I get the message "A connector Upgrade is Available. The Connectors software on UPSTAIRS mus be upgraded. Click here to upgrade..." But then I get "Windows Home Server Connectors is already installed on this computer. The Windows Home Server Connector software must be uninstalled before installing the software for your HP MediaSmart Server."
My main question is, is this uninstalling on the local PC C drive or something on the server? And when I go through with this, what things am I looking at in terms of what I need to do? I don't want to do this and then not know what needs doing afterward. I don't see anything that's not working right. The server is set up as a K drive and is mapped to be "My Documents". I see my data, everything seems to work right, and the first manual backup was successful, so why am I getting this message in the first place?

I understand that it's mandatory, but will I have to do things like re-mapping or anything like that? Or is it an update much like the regular Windows updates that are "foolproof"?
It is an update to the Connector software (the pic of the green house in the bottom right corner of your screen) installed on your client PC. It has no bearing on anything on that computer except for the Connector software (it will not affect mapped drives or anything else). As to why it happened, it was due to the fact that your server automatically downloaded and installed a WHS update that requires all of your clients in your local network to be updated to the latest version as well.- Proposed as answer by kariya21Moderator Monday, January 19, 2009 8:14 PM

Hi Kathryn,
uninstalling older versions of Connector software on a client PC is a mandatory step in the upgrade process.
After uninstalling the new version will install and ask for the console password. You will have to check some self explaining options, and thats it.
Later this will happen automatically in background, if you select that option during Connector setup (almost each upgrade for Windows Home Server brings also a newer version of the connector software).
Best greetings from Germany

Thanks for giving me the confidence to proceed. I updated one of the desktops and it led me through things just fine. That one no longer gives me the "connector upgrade" message, so I'm off to do the other two. Thanks again.Monday, January 19, 2009 8:44 PM
