As you suspected your HP Pavilion computer has a nongenuine installation of XP Pro on it.  It is a Volume Licensing Edition and it was installed with a "keygen" Invalid Product Key.

You can correct this situation in one of two ways:

    1.  If the CoA on your computer is for XP Pro, you can try to use the Product Key Updater Utility http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=45668 to change the Invalid Key to the PK on the CoA, which should be valid.  Note that the Product Key Updater cannot fix every situation, so if it fails you will have to do the same as in #2 below.

    2.  If the CoA is for XP Home, Tablet, or Media Center, the Updater Utility cannot be used, so you will have to backup and offload your valuable data, then use the Recovery Solution provided with the computer by HP to put a genuine installation of XP back onto the computer.  Recovery Solutions may include Recovery CDs or Operating System Reinstallation CDs, hidden Recovery Partitions, or both.  If you need further assistance in acquiring or using the HP Recovery Solution, please visit http://support.hp.com and search for help that applies to your model of HP.

    Good Luck!
