Hi wolfh,
I really don't know what's going on, but that "Rundll32.exe stopped working" issue doesn't appear to be related to Windows Genuine Advantage and it suggests to me that there is a bigger problem.
At this point, I can only suggest 3 options:
a) Contact Microsoft Vista support regarding the Rundll32.exe issue.
b) Contact the maker of your computer and see if they provide support.
c) Reinstall Vista.
(After you reinstall Vista, make sure that you only install one program at a time, run that program, then wait a bit and see if it makes Vista go Non-Genuine. If one does, uninstall it.)
Sorry I couldn't be more help,
Darin

Hi wolfh,
What's happening is called a Tamper State. There is a program that is incompatable with Vista and when that program does something that Vista doesn't allow, Vista goes into a No-genuine state.
There is two trpes of programs that cause a Tamper State
a) A program that can be launched at any time, by the user (such as a game)
b) A program that launches at Start up and that contently runs (such as an anti virus program)
For a) type programs, once you reboot, Vista goes back to a genuine state (because the program is no longer running)
For b) type programs, if you reboot, Vista is still in the tamper state because the program automaticly re-launched after re-boot.
I beleive you are experiancing a Tamper state caused by the a) type of programs since you seem to be poping back and forth between non-genuine and genuine. The key is identifing the offending program and either deleting it or upgradeing is to a Vista compatable version.
In your Diagnostic report above, you can see the line that starts with 'TTS Error:' followed by a bunch of letters and numbers:K:20070916064320084-M:20070918211823010-
If you break down the numbers, you will get a time stamp:
(year) (month) (day) (time in 24format) (milisec...I think)
K: 2007 09 16 0643 20084
M: 2007 09 18 2118 23010
In your case you have 2 tampers, and since they are diffrent dates/times, It may be two programs causing the problems or it may be just one that did diffrent things (that Vista didn't like) on two diffrent days.
Now that we know the times of the tamper, you can now try to tie that tamper time with a program.
You do that by:
1) Click the 'Start' button
2) Right Click 'Computer'
3) Select 'Manage'
4) Continue thru the "Windows needs your permission to continue" window (if any)
5) Click the arrow next to 'Reliability and Proformance'
6) Click the arror next to 'Monitoring Tools'
7) Click on 'Reliability Monitor'
8) Click on the graph above the date 9/16/2007
9) Below the graph, look at the report titled "Software (Un)Installs for 9/16/2007"
10) Look for any program that shows "Application Install" in the 'Activity' colum.
11) repeat steps 8) thru 10) for date 9/18/2007
This will tell you what programs were installed on the Tamper dates and should help you narrow down the possable programs that could be causing the issue . Unfortunetly, if you installed the program (say) on 09/01/2007, but you didn't run (and, hence, prompted the tamper state) untill the tamper date(s), this process may not be helpfull.
Please tell me if this helps you relsove the issue. If not, I will have additional steps for you to try.
Thank you,
Darin Smith

Hi Darin
Thanks for your reply.
The situation however is still confusing;
There is nothing for the 9/16/2007 date
On the 9/18/2007 date I installed the google package including skype (which I removed 2days ago now) which seems to have caused the second error message,
however
I never launched skype
I thought I had received the original error message earlier than this because I thought it was due to spyware doctor after reading the microsoft site and uninstalled it, and only installed the google package because I was looking for an alternative to spyware doctor (which incidentally I have reinstalled and seems to not be causing a problem). Unfortunately I'm not completely sure when it began - I did google the error but this just shows now as last weeks history.
Also I forgot to mention that I have recently connected to my school's public drive - I've only accessed it a couple of times and am now worried to access it again -could this be causing the problem?
At least knowing this is intermittent and the validation is restored on rebooting increases my confidence!
Thanks for your help

Hi wolfh,
I have one more thing we can try to help identify the program(s) causing this problem. There is a file (on your computer) that I would like you to send me. Unfortunetly, it is a Binary (not text based) file and can not be posted on the forum. So I need you to go to https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?c1=509&gprid=9860 and open a free WGA Service Request and then post the SR number in this thread.
Once I have the SR#, I will be able to see your email addres and will then send you the steps to find and send me that file.
Thank you,
Darin Smith

Hi Darin
Sorry to be really thick but
I don't know what an SR number is or where to find it (neither does anybody else in my house)
and I can't find how to open the free WAG Service Request either! The link took me to a page to choose my location which I did, then start email request! I searched for both in the search window and found nothing of any use.
Do I just email you my hotmail address from that link?
Thanks for being patient

My apologies wolfh, that was my fault. I sometime forget that not everyone eats and sleeps computers, like me
. Also, I originaly asked for an SR number, I was mistaken. They now call it a "Confirmation Number". That is what I need. Below I have provided the steps to get the confirmation number.
The link that I sent you to, should have a button that says "Start E-mail Request". Once you click that button, it will then ask if the 'Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage (All Languages) problem is on the computer that you are using now or not'. Select the answer that best fits and then click "Continue" .
On the next page, it will explain how to Download the Data Collection ActiveX Control". Follow the directions to install and once done, you should be sent to the next page automaticly.
On the next page, enter the requested information (name, email, so on). As well as a description of the issue and then select your operating system from the dropdown menu at the bottom of the page. then click the "Continue" button.
The last page you will see, is the Confirmation page and you will see a Confirmation Number. Record that number and post it in your forum thread. (you will also receive an email with the same information).
Sorry again for not being very clear,
Darin

Hi Darin
Have managed nine tenths of that (no drop down window but am using windows vista premium, and opted not for the diagnostic scan because we've already done that) only problem is when I try to send it it says
"An unknown application error occurred. Please try again in a few minutes"
Obviously I'll keep trying but not sure if it's my computer causing the problem!

Hi Darin
It's still giving me the same error message and it still won't send!
Rundll32.exe stopped working yesterday and again today -could it be connected to that?
Is there any other way of contacting you?
Thank you for your patience
