Hi Rob,
I'm curious why you would want to mark a thread as "Un-Read"? We've got a new filter coming that will allow you to see all threads that have new messages so you'll get threads you have never read and threads that have new messages since you last read them. But i'm not sure that would help with what you're looking for?
thanks,
Sam

We're adding a new filter called “Unread”, which displays any thread which has new posts added since your last visit. This allows you to see which threads you’ve never read (bold), as well as threads you’ve read that have new replies.
The original suggestion was to be able to mark something as read/un-read. We're thinking that this unread filter will basically give you the functionality you're looking for without zero clicks. It doesn't give you quite as much control however. See how this works for you once it's live.

No, it’s not currently possible to mark a thread as unread. I added this to our suggestions list for a future release.

Thanks Andrew,
BTW...Alerts seem to be working but double emails...I recieved two from this thread.
And then another via Live Messenger when I just replied to you...I wonder if I'll get another after editing this(?)- Edited by Rob Giordano Tuesday, March 4, 2008 5:35 PM added content

Did you get one alert for each reply? That’s what I would expect.
Is that different than the way alerts work on the older forum platform (forums.microsoft.com)?
I think the behavior that you saw where you got an alert by email and messenger, may be by design if you’re subscribed to both types of alerts via Live Alerts.

Oh great to hear! I know I'll personally use this filter a lot especially for this forum where I will always want to quickly see all the new posts since I last checked.

You know what else would be cool?... If the Live Alert (like I just received) had a method of going directly to the Alerted Message.Friday, March 14, 2008 4:36 PM

Like a permalink to the post itself within the thread? You do get a link to the thread right?

Yes, otherwise you have to go searching for the msg.
Also...it's really kinda dumb that you get alerted to your own posts - I wonder if anything could be done about that?
Wow...and that Live Alert if really fast, a couple of seconds after I posted this I was alerted to my post!- Edited by Rob Giordano Saturday, March 15, 2008 1:33 PM added content

Well it would be really nice to be able to mark all threads as Read
That way you can start with a clean sheet. There are lots of threads that you may have no interest in visiting, and it would be nice to be able to "catch up" by marking everything read.
Then the unread filter could be more useful.
