CRM 3 - Inplace upgrade looses the database / Organisation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

To test a 3.0 -> 4.0 upgrade of our live CRM3 we have performed a test upgrade of a new 3.0 server (with roll ups, dummy data and imported customisations from production).

We already have a 4.0 dev system and on succesful completion of the 3.0 test upgrade our upgraded system now forwards straight onto the organisation of this (existing 4.0) server. In the deployment manager there is only the dev system Organisation and the Import Organsiastion does not seem to recognise our existing test database (that should have been upgraded).

We are using SQL 2005 and Windows 2003 R2 servers all round - thoughts would be much appreciated (as at the moment I see kn way to successfully upgrade the production 3.0).

    Thanks in advance. Gary

CRM 4 has changed the database stucture so that each deployment can only be associated with one SQL Server instance. To use one Sql Server instance for multiple organisaions you will need to upgrade each crm 3 seperately following the instructions in the installation guide then import each organisation into one CRM Server deployment.

  • If I understand your question right, you did the in place upgrade on a server that already has a CRM 4.0 environment.  I would recommend doing the upgrade of the test environment on a different server and then import it into your existing 4.0 environment using the 4.0 deployment manager import organization feature.

  • Hi,

The Test upgrade was performed (3.0 - > 4.0) on a new server - not the same as the existing dev server (which already had 4.0 on it).

On completion of the 3.0 upgrade the deployment manger (on the new server) only listed the existing 4.0 development server - not an upgraded test 4.0 organisation/database.

  • Did you refresh the deployment manager?  If it didn't show up, did you try it again?
What happens when you go to the URL for the new org that you set up (http://crmserver:5555/test).  When you say that it automatically forwards to the existing environment, are you using the URL for org 2?  You probably already knew that each org has its own URL, however, it is worth repeating.
