Hello Ant,
What error codes and/or messeging are you receiving which indicates you have failed validation? Right now I show your product key as good. Microsoft Office is showing as a Blocked Volume Licensing key. Have you done any upgrades since owning your system and if so exactly what portions were upgraded? Also if you did replace parts what was the reason?
Thank you,
Stephen Holm, MS

hello again, sorry for not replying earlier, the errors are numerous
the validation tool page tells me its downloaded and ready to install but keeps failing with no explanation why, no error code just a message telling me to check update history.
the history contains nothing about the validation tool itself just other failed updates.
Security Update for Windows XP (KB911562 Error Code: 0x80242006
Security Update for Windows XP (KB899591) Error Code: 0x80242006
Security Update for Windows Media Player 9 (KB936782) 0x80242006
there are a few others with the same error code, when shutting down it also starts to install over 80 updates but powers off before installing them. the only option i can think of would be a complete re-install of the system but if it's avoidable all the better, any help would be greatly appreciated. also no hardware upgrades have been done since purchase of the computer.
thankyou Ant dkSaturday, December 1, 2007 3:15 PM -

06196082,
Please start your own thread.
When you do,
Please follow these steps for assistance:
Step 1 is to run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response in this thread.
Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA). If you have one, tell us about the CoA. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key that's on the CoA
Not sure what to look for? See this page for reference: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx
