Loosing Pics on Daily Backuup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Gang,

I guess I really do not understand the backup process. I have WHS and two networked computers. Today WHS does a backup of both computers. Pictures are backed up in each pc's backup file. Tomorrow I delete pictures from one of the computers but I want to keep these pictures backed up.. WHS does its backup after the pictures where delete. The third day my computer has a hd failure. I restore the computer to a new hard drive using the latest WHS backup. Are the pictures I deleted but are still in the first WHS backup restored to the new hard drive even though I used the latest backup? At sometime in the future because of space I will have to delete the first backup. Now I loose all the pictures in that backup that are not in the last backup, the one I used to restore the computer?

In other words I want to keep a running backup of my all my pictures from day one and from both networked computers.

    Peace,

    kozman

  • Sorry, you're right.. :-(

When you delete them from machine 1, the backup dated AFTER that action does not contain them anymore. Older backups (when they are still there on WHS) from that machine still do contain them.

Or.. put them in a folder (prefarably a duplicated one) on the WHS, from which you make a backup regurarly to an external drive and put that away safely (not in the same house).

    Hi Leen,

Did you mean "after" instead of "before" in your reply "the backup dated before that action does not contain them anymore" ?

So I have to find a different means of backing up pictures if I want to keep them, unless I never delete the WHS backups. So if I do FIFO because of limited hd room...save the pics elseware.

    Thanks Leen
