Connection to Account and Contact RRS feed

  • Question

  • We create an Account record.  This Account record represents two people, husband and wife.  We then create a connection from this Account.   We then create one Contact record for each of the two people in the Account record that was just created.  Is there a way to have a connection automatically made for the contact record just like the Connection record that was made for the Account record like through a workflow so we would not need to manually create the contact connection?

ACCOUNT: Mr. & Mrs Smith  ==> Connection A

CONTACT: Mr. Smith   ==> Connection A

CONTACT: Mrs. Smith  ==> Connection A

    Thank you

  • Sorry, I didn't quite understand what you wanted to do. That could be done by an advanced find on related connected to(contact) where lastname is not null and then having a workflow that's on demand and run on those connections setting the related to(contact) parent customer to related from(account) account. It's a bit tricky to get these correct I would imagine, I haven't done anything like it yet but it should work to do it that way

    Godd Luck!

  • Hi Russ,

Why don't you just use the relation between account and contact that comes out of the box in CRM?

Is there a reason that you're creating a connection?

  • We have been using connection on the Accounts for some time and only recently wanted to expand the connections to the contact.  So this is where we are.  Is there some way to have the Contact / connection automatically created?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

If you open the account you want to add contacts to and then navigate to the contact part of the the account, that differs slightly between 2011 and 2013 but you should be able to find it. There you create the contact and that contact is automatically connected to the account with the 1:N relation between account and contact.

    Good luck!

  • You can use a workflow to create a connection between the new contact and the parent account. Workflow should run on Contact create : If Contact:Parent Account contains data Create: Connection. Pop in the {parent account(contact)} on Connect To Name in Connection Properties. If you want the workflow to create a new connection if parent account is changed on the contact then it should also trigger on 'Record field change'(parent account)
