  • Hello Marshalls,

Thanks for posting the full report.

As you have already noted, your installation of Office Enterprise 2007 is a nongenuine installation.  It is a volume licensing installation that was done with an Invalid Volume Licensing Key.  Invalid VLKs are made by a pirating program called a Key Generator, or keygen, for short.  The product key was never one that was issued by Microsoft.

Normally, legitimate users of Volume Licensing editions of Office are associated with larger business, educational, or governmental organizations.  If that's you, please contact your organization's IT support staff for further assistance.

If your use of this installation of Office Enterprise 2007 is not associated with a larger business, educational, or governmental organization, and you purchased the installed copy of Office Enterprise 2007 thinking that it was a retail license to be sold to individual consumers, it is likely that you are a victim of software piracy or counterfeiting.  As an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing (VL) materials such as the VL installation CD, and you certainly should not have received an Invalid Product Key for Office Enterprise 2007.  You should have been sold Genuine retail licensed software.

If so, your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand either a full refund or to receive the genuine software you paid for.  Your seller's sales receipt "certification" does not seem to be worth the paper it's printed on.

If the seller refuses to help, please file a piracy report at www.microsoft.com/piracy.  Also, depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you think that you qualify for the Genuine Office Offer, apply for the Offer thru the Learn More Online link that the OGA Notifier is displaying.

Your installation of Front Page 2003 is also a nongenuine installation.  As you can see in the snippet above, the mgadiag utility is showing that the Product Key used to install Front Page 2003 is genuine.  However, the license for this installation of Front Page is also a Volume License, and since you do not have a current and valid Volume Licensing Agreement to run front Page, your usage of Front Page, regardless of whether the Product Key is Genuine or not, is a nongenuine usage.  The fact that the Prodcut Key for Front Page is still Genuine means that the organization that originally purchased the Volume License for that Front Page Product Key is still in Good Standing with their Volume Licensing Agreement.  That Product Key is rightfully their Product Key, and no one else's.

  • Hello Marshalls,

Please post the entire contents of the mgadiag report.  Thanks!

Also, does your piece of paper look anything like the Microsoft Open License Agreement paper shown on this page (scroll down about 1/3 of the way):

  • Hi Dan

Full Diagnostics report below, the piece of paper doesn't look like the one in the list, it's gray A4 on Castellan headed paper, stating there a gold partner, it's a legal MS Office Copy and can be installed on up to 3 computer systems, wit item, disk ref and certificate nos at the bottom of the page. I've also tried running a copy of MS Fixit and when run it comes back with error code 2738, and I've also tried locating the opa12.dat file on my PC the one that MS Fixit is suppose to delete, but the search comes back as not found.

    Cheers Steve

  • Hello Marshalls,

Thanks for posting the full report.

    Here is the relevant snippet:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK
    Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 - 100 Genuine
Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK

  • Hi Dan,

Sorry for not replying sooner, thanks for the info, I'm on with the company who I purchased MS Office from and they're in the process of sending out another disc, hopefully this will pass the validation test. In the meantime can you tell me what happens if the number of days on the non genuine software gets down to 0. Thanks for your help.

    Cheers Steve

  • Hello Marshalls,

To asnwer your question, "marked as nongenuine" means that your menu selection will have an additonal menu item for Getting Genuine, and you will see occasional Get Genuine "nags" when Office is started and periodically during use.

Not one bit of Office functionality is curtailed, and there is abolutely no loss of data or loss of access to your data whatsoever.

So it's not the end of the world :-)

Regarding the company sending out a new disc, you have to understand that if you are an individual consumer, you should have been sold retail software by any legitimate seller, and retail software is not just "a disc."  Office Enterprise 2007 is usually a volume licensing product, and as far as I know the only way that it shows up in the report as a retail installation is when you are using the genuine Microsoft disc that is sent out as part of the Home Use Program, a program that lets big companies who have a Volume Licensing Agreement for Office with MS offer a perk to their employees under the Volume License, and that is a very inexpensive (less than $15) genuine copy of Office for the employee to use at home.
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/software-assurance/home-use-program.aspx
    http://www.microsofthup.com/hupus/home.aspx?culture=en-US

So if you are "Joe Consumer" and were shopping for a copy of Office, there is no way that anyone could have legitimately sold you Office Enterprise 2007.  If anything they should be selling you the retail editions of Office, or maybe (stretching the rules a bit) selling you the OEM editions of Office, but certainly not Enterprise because that's neither a retail nor an OEM edition of Office.

But please be sure to come back and keep us updated about what they send you and if it pans out as genuine or not!
