  • About the methods given above: You can just as easily remove them from the filter as how you put it in the first place which defeats the purpose and it's applicable to IE only.

There are professional software to do this at a single system level. Just Google/Live for them. I am not familiar with the latest trends in this.

If you are planning to do this at a wider scale such as in a school or college, you will have to re-route the entire traffic through a few (depending on the size) proxy servers and filter it in the main gateway servers which is foolproof to a wider extend. Another method would be to set up a VPN in your local intranet and filter it in the main hub server.

Then again, its not too hard to bypass any filters. It's impossible to completely block the web sites / videos.

  • You use many software for it.you just search on google and find it.other option is that you block the unnecessary advertise on your page with pop-up menu. You just search on "block the perticuler site or pop-up" software and u easily get with little search .good luck

  • All,

One idea that I have found, is to block specific sites in the router setup.  Most routers have a feature that allows you to block web pages that contain specific key words or content you are loking to avoid.  As an example you can block Youtube by adding Youtube.com to your blocked site key words in the router setup.  Make sure that you enable the password on the router setup and set it to something your kids do not know.  Another alternative other than the router modification is to use Windows Live.  Microsoft offers family friendly internet through Windows Live.

  • best is to use mozilla firefox which will automatically block most of the bad websites if you mean bad as those with malware/spyware or malicious scripts and stuff

for the latter part of your question, best solution is to use ad block plus plugin for firefox which can be used to block parts of the page where advertisements on the page can be automatically blocked using a blacklist of ad sites (it will ask you first if you want to and give you a choice of lists). apart from that you may block other portions of the page like videos too.
