What is the current solution for accessing MSDN/TechNet forums via NNTP Bridge? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone.

I was always using NNTP Bridge v1 to work with my News Reader to access to MSDN/TechNet forums until some day in the early March the NNTP Bridge v1 was suddenly not working.

I tried to find a newer version of NNTP Bridge v3 from https://ci.appveyor.com/project/JochenKalmbach/communitybridge3/builds/17243492/messages but did not get an available download link. It seems that all versions older than six month no longer have a link for download.

I guess there is still a current solution to access to forums via NNTP Bridge, because the "Use NNTP Bridge" checkbox is still available in the forums personal profile settings.

Anyone who can guide me the current solution to recover my access to forums via NNTP Bridge?

    Thank you very much.

  • You'll probably need to ask fissues about the current status on the forums end.

  • They just acknowledged problems with the bridge and report they're working on it.

All the request to Forums Web Service is focus to https now.

So NNTP 3.x can’t work as expected now,   fortunately NNTP 1.x still work, just need to modify this file :CommunityForumsNNTPServer.exe.config

    1. update <security mode="None">  to  <security mode="Transport">

    2. update " http://services.social.microsoft.com/ForumsServicePreview/ForumsService.svc" to " https://services.social.microsoft.com/ForumsServicePreview/ForumsService.svc"
