Start Audio Conference when Leader joins RRS feed

  • Question

  • Audio Conferences start once any authenticated user joins the conference.  Is there a way to change this behavior such that the conference won't start until the leader(or a leader) joins the conference?

  • The conference actually starts only for authenticated users prior to a leader joining, but any unauthenticated users will not be dumped into the conference until a leader arrives. So anyone outside of the organization isn't hearing your conversation until the leader shows up.

  • Hi John,

Tom is correct if you have not installed the latest QFE release in August where this behavior has changed. Now when any authenticated user joins the PSTN users are joined to the conference.

  • Yikes. Thanks for the correction, Chris. Guess I missed that one in the QFE notes.

Gives a good overview of dialin conferencing and some of the changes that came with the recent QFE upgrades.

  • FYI, Doug Lawty has a good description of this behavioral change in OCS R2 on one of his blogs:

  • Kind of funny they refer to it as a "bug" now. I remember some early marketing slide material touting that behavior of enterprise users being able to chat without a leader as a "feature" when R2 was coming out.

  • I don't think it's considered a 'bug' but more of a requested behavior change that was included in the latest round of QFE updates.
