Hi,
We have a list of companies in CRM which are owned by a user who has now left. We would like to change the ownership of those records to reflect the new owner. Import/Export doesn't seem to work with lookup attributes so I was going to perform the process manually (as there are not too many companies affected). However, if I change the ownership of the company from User A to User B, all contacts attached to that company change ownership to User B regardless of who actually owns them. Am I just doing something wrong here? Is there some other method I'm supposed to use?

Thanks for the response - but running a trial on our development server shows up the exact same problem as individually reassigning companies: every single contact at a reassigned company is transferred to the ownership of the new user, regardless of who the original user was. Example:
Company A [owned bu user 1]
-- Contact A1 [owned by user 1]
-- Contact A2 [owned by user 2]
-- Contact A3 [owned by user 2]
Reassign user 1's records to user 99 and the outcome is:
Company A [owned by user 99]
-- Contact A1 [owned by user 99]
-- Contact A2 [owned by user 99]
-- Contact A3 [owned by user 99]
This is not a valid outcome and is completely unusable. Is there something wrong with the setup of our implementation or something?
