CRM 4: workflow Timeout for an fixed amount of time RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a situation where I want a workflow to wait for a fixed 6 months and then do something, rather than waiting relative to a date value on the entity.

    I want to start a Timeout when the user changes the status of an opportunity (to on-hold) so that the workflow will wait for 6 months and then raise a task on the user to remind them about it.  I tried the following workflow, using Parallel Wait conditions:

    On change of status-reason:
    If status-reason = "on-hold" then
       Wait until status-reason does not equal "on hold"
         Stop WF with Cancelled
       Timeout Until Months: 6 After <???>
         Create Task
      Stop WF with status canceled

    Is there any way to achieve this without having to create a custom attribute on the opportunity to hold the date that the status is changed to on-hold ?

    Many thanks for any advice.

  • Yes, your workflow should work fine just change

    Timeout Until Months: 6 After <???>

    Timeout Until Duration {6 months}

    You will find the "duration" operation in form assistant, change the "after" dropdown for "duration".
