  •   I have check this Product Key and it is restricted by a Geo Block and the Geo Block information does Not show Singapore as a country where activation is allowed for this key.

In other words, that copy of Windows was not designed to be sold in Singapore. It was distributed to one of the allowed countries and then brought to Singapore (most likely because whatever country this Windows was originally purchased in, cost less then the Windows that are supposed to be sold in Singapore).

I recommend that you contact the person or company that sold you this Windows and arrange for a refund.

(NOTE: Before anyone calls me out on this, Yes Singapore is it's own country https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Singapore)

    Thank you,

  • What happens when you try to activate?

I can see no problems with this installation that should prevent activation unless it's an Upgrade Key.

The package should state for which region it's licensed, if it is a restricted license.

Hi Darin, the box says "Distribution and required activation must occur in Southeast Asia". And Singapore is a part of Southeast Asia! (here)

If there's really a problem with my retail box set, can you help me by giving me some authentic print out (I'll print)?

The shop concerned is here: http://www.fuwell.com.sg/

Hi Darin, any word on my problem yet? It's been a long time since you last replied.

By the way, I was able to activate over the phone.

Should I report any piracy issues to Microsoft or what?

  • Singapore may be in SE Asia on your map but that does not mean it is grouped with the poorer nations in SE Asia for purposes of Geo control.  As you are in Singapore, contact Microsoft there for an explanation.  If the product was imported into Singapore from someplace like Thailand it might well be blocked in Singapore (just giving an example).  The problem is that Microsoft allows much reduced pricing in poorer countries and therefore has to protect sellers in developed countries from "dumping".

I'm still waiting for Microsoft to nab the shop that sold it. Whether it's a problem of dumping or parallel import, Microsoft tech support let me activate over phone. Maybe Microsoft is doing something about this in the background, I don't know. But I expect an answer asap. I bought a retail box version, and will likely install this Windows 7 on another desktop next year. I don't wanna hear that I have an illegal product by that time.

  • You'll need to continue to communicate with Microsoft about those issues.  This is just a user-to-user forum hosted by Microsoft on their servers for the convenience of Microsoft users.  We are all volunteers.
