Blocked product Key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I have been pointed to this forum from the microsoft answers forum as they believe the members here might be able to shed some light on what is happening.
I recently purchased a copy of  windows 7 home premium upgrade from ebay. Upon arrival I checked the contents of the box and found the seller had removed the product key sticker and had writen a product key down instead. I contacted him straight away but he assured my that the sticker had been removed and stuck on his old PC which was now sold and the one written down would work?? Strange as in the ad on ebay he stated that this coy of windows 7 was bought as a gift but never used?? So a day later I install windows 7, all goes well until I try and activate windows online. It came up saying the code is blocked. So I confirm the code with the seller who confirms I am entering the correct code. Try several more times including the automated telephone activation but still being told the product key is blocked. I then being a longe-mail debate with the seller stating that I am not happy with the item and due to the sticker being removed from the box, even though the image on the ad shows a sticker and there is no mention of it being removed in the description, I would like a refund. Needless to say he is adamant that the code is genuine and states he has been in touch with microsoft who also state it is genuine. Sorry for the tale above but I have carried out a MGAD tool and you can see the results below. Can someone please let me know if there is an obvious reason this code is blocked or is it due to the product key being illegal?. Many thanks for your help. Ian

  • I have checked the Product Key and it is showing as Activation Blocked.  There has been 27 Activations (and/or Activation attempts) listed for this key.  That is not very high and you could probably get the block removed by contacting the Activation Call center.

But, between the Activation Block, the fact that the seller didn't (I assume) supply you with the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity and given that the Product Key is hand written, if it were me, I wouldn't hassle with it, I would just return it and get my money back.

    Thank you,

    The seller is lying.
put a complaint in to eBay and PayPal for 'Goods not as described'
The Key here looks genuine enough - but only
Darin will be able to give an answer as to its activation history.
