Activation failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

First time posting on here so I hope I have it right!

A friend of mine bought an Acer Aspire 5103WLKMi about 6 weeks ago and as of last week the vista activation has started to appear again.

I re-entered the licence key and it said that the key was invalid and that I would have to use the phone validation, I used the phone validation and that also drew up no results. I've run the online genuine advantage activation and that worked fine.

I put a fresh install back on the notebook using the Acer backup disk but that didnt let me activate either.

As far as I am aware the notebook has had no changes since it was bought. the HD was pretty clean and apart from some homework and a few yahoo games there doesnt seem to be anything on there that would cause this.

I have also tried to install the update mentioned in a few of the posts but that said something along the lines of not needing the update.

    Thanks

    David P.

    Hi Dskycrazy,

Laptops (with Vista pre-installed) that are sold by Large Manufacturers (Dell, HP, Acer, so on) are Activated straight from the factory. So once you did a fresh install, using the Acer backup disk, Vista should have been set back to Factory Defaults and should not require Activation.

Please confirm that Once you did a fresh install, using the Acer backup disk, that Vista is still giving error messages requiring you to Activate.

    Thank you,

  • Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner on this but I have been a little busy this week.

Yes after using the Acer backup disk, Vista is still giving the error messages requiring update. - I had read somewhere a while back that some OEM's had the acivation bypass, so was pretty surprised when it said the key was invalid and activation couldnt be completed.

    Thanks

  • It just occured to me that perhaps the backup disk was not a backup disk. I recall that the disk has acer written on the top, it also says vista on the disk and something like install and drivers. But I can't for the life in me recall it saying Backup or Recovery on it - It let me do a fresh install of vista though which is why i figured it was,  - just me being paranoid or?

Don't all acer aspires have D2D recovery partition on them? (I know my desktop replacement acer notebook has one) - the alt F10 or F11 didnt work, it just brought up alternate boot options, although D2D is enabled in the bios. mmmm the plot thickens. As soon as I get home I'll have to take a look.

But until then any sugestions would still be appretiated.

  • I have a question about Vista Activation.

How many times can we activate it online?
