  • This really isn't a forums issue. You could mention it here.

    https://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/mailform/contactus.aspx?refurl=https%3a%2f%2fgallery.technet.microsoft.com%2fscriptcenter

    or possibly over here.

  • The script repository link is not a TechNet Scripting forum issue.  Since when?

  • It is the Gallery link at the top of this page that is broken.  THe Gallery link only shows up on the ITSG forum.  Other TechNet forums have "Repository"

  • Ok, gotcha now. I think you're telling us a link in the home page here is broken.

  • If I link through the ScriptCenter I see "Repository" .  When linking fro all email notices I see "Gallery and link through here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ITCG/thread/b804c810-8d0c-4678-a9a4-1d69fbb2c061/

The Gallery usually point at the same site as Repository but now it points to a dead page.

I am only posting this as  notice.  I really don't care.  I prefer to use the repository link but I tend to click at the top of the page instead on on the favorites bar

TechNet will go away as it seems that no one cares to manage or upgrade the site.

  • I'm seeing the same thing. The repository is up, but the main gallery page is down.

    Error message:

  • Yes - that is what I am seeing.  I have never had luck with posting to the page link when it is actually on the page.  Most of the time the security code won't work or the page aborts with an error.

Now it looks like someone has fixed the "Gallery" link because it no longer shows up on any page. We will have to see if it stays fixed. I never know what to tell a poster. Click "Gallery" or click "Repository" as we can all be looking at either one at any time. I think somebodies fancy link re-writer does not work too well. It creates some very weirdly decorated URLs at times.

  • You'll get the repository link (and the proper Learn link) as long as you have /scriptcenter/ in your URL. We get the standard Gallery link here because there isn't any extra branding. (Click here to see this thread with our header instead of the standard one)

I actually replace /windowsserver/ with /scriptcenter/ for my Windows PowerShell forum tab. The /windowsserver/ branding is terrible. This has caused me problems though, because I've pointed people to a Repository link that doesn't appear for them...

    EDIT: Extra fun, just cuz:

    Forefront

    SQL

    Visual Studio

    Exchange

There are more, but these should be a pretty good representation.

  • I know about the branding however the email always forces the branding to not be scriptcenter. In that case "Gallery" shows up most of the time however, today it is now showing "Repository"

I also cannot remain logged in or the RSS freed will throw DTD error.  This is a remnant of having one of the oldest MSN accounts still in service.  I hate to trying to get the accounts people to fix it because it only gets worse whnever someone makes changes.

The web pages that I get when logged in creates a cookie that causes the old DTD version of the RSS feed to load.  That is blocked for security reasons in IE 9(?) and later.  If I logout the RSS will load the page without the DTD and all works well.

  • I just tried something. I moved the RSS over to the "ScriptCenter" branded link and it now works correctly. Of course I have done this before and the link works for a few hours or a day then fails. I have to delete the cookies to get it working again.

Now if I can just get the email links to retain the branding things will get easier.

I now believe that most of the errors are due to one mis-loaded link that tends to force all pages to use the old unbranded site.  Any ideas how to track that down?

  • Nope! As soon as I chose to stay logged in the DTD error came back even on the scriptcenter branding   It is pretty clear that TechNet has become a bastard child or an orphan.  I have none of these issues on and of the fully upgraded forums in any community from MSDN to Office.

  • Sounds like fun.

I don't use the RSS feeds myself and I only use email notifications for the very few threads I've started.

There have definitely been some changes going on with the forums over the last week or so, but we've yet to see any official announcements about anything at all. Hopefully there's some good being done in the background.

  • But using email links removes the branding.  The RSS feed will not use the branded link either.

If I use someone else's Hotmail or msn account the RSS feeds work. If I never log through- ITCG the RSS works for a while but some page I load seems to corrupt the cookie.  If I delete the cookies then it will work for a while.  Again - only on TechNet. On MSDN, Office and other communities I have none of these issues.

Anyway - I do not really care it is just a real interesting mode of failure.

  • I heard back from the MSDN Site Feedback folks, the main Gallery site is back up and running again now.

  • cannot remain logged in or the RSS freed will throw DTD error.

My workaround for that one is to append  &outputAs=rss  to the broken feed URL.  A problem then is that I don't get to look at my feed but the common (40 item) version.  But at least if I'm just looking for recent stuff I can see it that way.

Hmm... it has changed.  Now my feeds are showing as a set of links prefixed by Feeds with DTDs are not supported.  But at least now the numbers are good.  Now a remaining problem would be that I can't search the feed but that has always been problematic anyway, since we rarely get/got the new stuff, just the OP.

  • That has nothing to do with the RSS problem.

Here is the link that fails: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ITCG/threads?outputAs=rss

Notice that it has the ending.  That is what an RSS feed is.  It ask for an XML file to be sent.

    This is the XML: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ITCG/threads?outputAs=xml

    Everything elseis decoration.
