Data import with updates in Excel sheet RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

Is this possible to export User entity's data to Excel and then import the modified back after doing changes in Excel in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 Online?

I read the documentation on data import here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg328321.aspx but didn't find if we can use data import feature to update the existing data in the DYNCRM?

    Regards,

  • You should be able do this using standard update feature, so for this create view on Users and add your relevant columns (i.e. fields) to update and then export this view (see screen print below).

you can then update relevant excel (i.e. XML) file and import it back to CRM.

  • Hi,

This is not possible OOTB. However you can update existing data using the trick suggested in the article below. Basically create a custom entity and then run a workflow for that to update the user entity.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Minal,

Following the steps provided in the link provided in the post you referred I was able to update the user entity records vai import from Excel. Reference link: http://www.powerobjects.com/blog/2012/12/18/mass-update-closed-opportunities-in-crm-2011/

Why did you say that it was not possible or we may have to apply the trick if this is a built in feature? I am missing some point here?

  • The reason this was not suggested was, this does not work for all entity. Also it is limited in case of how many records you can import and what version of CRM you are using.
