New lost login-cookie behavior RRS feed

  • Question

  • A common problem posting to these forums is a login cookie that expired while using the post editor.  Clicking the Submit button used to have two possible outcomes.  Either an "Unexpected Error" alert box.  Or the spinner spins forever and never completes.  The first one, the more common one, could be worked around by opening a forum page in another tab and logging back in.  The latter would produce unrecoverable loss of the post.

This recovery method no longer works since the last update.  I'm seeing something new when I spy with Firebug.  There's now a OPTIONS post to live.login.com that resembles this:

    http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1249482177&rver=5.0.3265.0&wp=MCLBI&wlcxt=Msdn%24Msdn%24Msdn&wreply=http:%2F%2Fsocial.msdn.microsoft.com:80%2FForums%2Fen-US%2Fuser%2Fforumsthreads%3Fprof%3Drequired&lc=1033&cb=wizid%3D4d1382e7-4d42-401b-8f9d-1b1da57e9cc0%26returnurl%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252fsocial.msdn.microsoft.com%253a80%252fForums%252fen-US%252fuser%252fforumsthreads%253fprof%253drequired%26wp%3DMCLBI%26lcid%3D1033&id=254354

That gets a 200 response with no text, producing an alert that's empty.  Clicking Submit again just repeats this ad infinitum.  Logging back in using another tab doesn't solve the problem, I can do nothing but click Cancel.  I need a workaround for my workaround.
