I don't know what the cause of the error is or how to resolve it, but apparently the error indicates that the COM components may be damaged or not properly registered.
I recommend that you submit a bug report:

I'm receiving the exact same error message. This is my first attempt at installing. Windows XP, SP2 (with automatic updates on). I would really like to know why I can't install this program as it seems like a much better alternative to Remote Desktop Connection, which I'm really sick of.
Please help! I can't submit a Live Mesh Log as Mr. Boots recommends because the program isn't installed...thus no log is being generated.Thursday, July 2, 2009 9:42 PM -
The post that explains how to submit a bug with logs also includes instructions on where to find the logs for a failed installation.
RD in Live Mesh has some great features (Ability to shut down the remote PC, put it to sleep, multiple monitor support), but RD from Windows and RD from Live mesh are actually quite similar in functionality.

I am experiencing this problem as well. Live Mesh was installed and working on my computer, then about two weeks ago it stopped syncing files. It wasn't showing any errors though. Files were simply no longer synchronized even though everything looked like it was working.
At the suggestion of tech support I uninstalled Live Mesh and tried re-installing. I now get this 80004002 error when I attempt to reinstall. Despite the directions on "How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs" no Servicing.log or Servicing[0000].log is generated. Tech support has not been very helpful and I'm really hurting to have Mesh working again.Tuesday, July 14, 2009 3:12 PM -
Did you try the solution in my previous post - enabling Hardware Virtualization in the BIOS?

My BIOS does not appear to have a setting for enabling/disabling virtualization. My processor is an intel E5345, and i'm running 64-bit Vista, if that makes a difference. Thanks.Tuesday, July 14, 2009 5:58 PM

Well, the BIOS setting may be a red herring - it was just reported as a solution by one person. I'm told that the primary reason for this error is that you don't have the latest version of the Windows Update component. So, try going to Windows Update and make sure that all important/critical updates are installed. See if the information in this thread helps: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/781058.htm
It suggests reregistering the WU components.
