Pirated sofware (incompatalbe??) unable to windows update, control panel, system restore RRS feed

  • Question

  • I don't know what set this off, but i updated last night, then booted this morning. later on, i got the message for this validation error, saying there was an incompatable program, or pirated software or something along that line. I uninstalled the most recent software i installed (registry clearer software) and no go from there. Of coarse before i installed / used this software i created a system restore point, but hey, it wont let me into system restore, control panel, or update because of this validation issue, so alot of good that did.

    [0x80070426]

From the diagnostic tool i get this readout

I have no idea whats happening here, but the CMD command the validation recommends i try fails

    C:\Windows\System32>net start slsvc
    System error 3 has occurred.

The system cannot find the path specified.

And i have, like i said, already un-installed any recent software, without the aid of add/remove programs (because i can't get to it)

    Any ideas?

  • Hi Nemock,

the error code 0x80070426 (in line 3 of your Diagnostic Report) tells me that the Software Licensing Service not currently running. I am unsure why, but follow the below steps to turn it back on.

If you have acces to the Start button:

    1) Click the Start button

    2) Type: cmd in the Start Search field

    3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe

    4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: net start slsvc

If you do not have access to the Start button:

    1) Click the option Access computer with reduced functionality

    2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field

    3) Find the file cmd.exe

    4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: net start slsvc

    Thank you,

  • Hi Nemock,

Yep, you are correct, I completly missed that portion of your message. I get on my support agents for not fully reading or listening to a customer's issue and then I do it myself.  You have my sincere apologizes.

At this point, I beleive that creating a support request is your best option. They have techniques to get that service started that, I feel, are too complicated to try over the forums.

    Thank you,

  • Still awaiting any response. I don't understand how something can undergo such a complete failure and not take the whole system with it, and from what i have been reading, this has been happening from microsoft updates be sent through? yea what? that doesn't make sense.

In any case, i was going to try to repair the installation, but im not exactly sure what will be left in tact after that, so heres another question:
when you repair vista, are programs and documents preserved?

  • They sent me a completely useless generic email that was of no use whatsoever

  • Then please reply to the email and explain that the steps provided did not resolve the issue.
