SyncToy 2.0 does not work RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I just installed SyncToy 2.0 for the first time and it worked without problems. But when I try to create a new folder pair using the button at the bottom I get the following error message:

    "Entry Point Not Found"
"The procedure entry point TraceMessage could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll."

And then in a second dialog:

    "Error"
"The required Microsoft Sync Framework components for SyncToy cannot be found. Please re-run SyncToy 2.0 setup from the original location."

If I use the link on top, I can browse the folders, choose the type and get then the following error:

    "Error"
"Failed to create folder pair. Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {565AEDBF-3108-4405-AF1F-9C2C25925DAE} failed due to the following error: 8007007f."

    I'm on Windows 2000 SP4.

I've re-installed the packages several times but nothing helped. Any ideas what I need to install additionally?

  • I am having a similar problem while running SyncToy 2.0 on Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I was able to run SyncToy just once - after I first installed it. After that I keep getting an error message and an entry in the log file every time I am trying running it:

*** The required Microsoft Sync Framework components for SyncToy cannot be found. Please re-run SyncToy 2.0 setup from the original location.

I tried to re-install SyncToy as suggested - the problem stays the same. I uninstalled and re-installed it again - no results.

    Please advice.

    Thanks,

I installed this Sync Toy on all my computers and it worked fine up until I installed it to a Windows 2000 Server. I get the error "the procedure entry point tracemessage could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll" when I open the program and want to create my first pair of folders. I also got the second dialog message box as well.

    Thanks for any solutions.

  • why does it not say this on the MS download screen and why does the installer not point this minor issue out when you install it.
