Unable to install connector software on rebuilt Windows XP PC RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a laptop that has been connected to my Home Server (original version but up to date) quite happily for ages. I decided to rebuild this laptop and proceeded to do a clean install of XP SP3 plus all current updates. I tried to install the connector software by going to http://homeserver01:55000 and clicking the "Download Now". I got an IIS error

You are not authorized to view this page

You do not have permission to view this directory or page due to the access control list (ACL) that is configured for this resource on the Web server.

    Please try the following:

    • Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.
    • Click the Refresh button to try again with different credentials.

HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)

Previously this has always worked. It looks to my like the ACL has become corrupt somewhere in IIS.

I tried to get around this by copying the installer files from Software\"Home Server Connector Software"

The connector installed OK but after prompting for the WHS Administrator password it also barfed with a message

"This operation cannot be completed at this time"

Surely there must be some IIS experts in here as well.
