  • i reinstalled windows XP home SP2 that was bundled with my dell 510m. They requested me to activate my windows, but when i used the serial number located behind my laptop, it says that it is incorrect. I followed the advice given in this thread (http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=680463&SiteID=25)

  • Reubengoh,

    Rerun the activation wizard (Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Activate Windows) and choose telephone activation.  You'll begin with the automated telephone activation system, and may be successful.  If you get rejected by the automated telephone system, choose the option to speak with a live activation rep, answer their questions about how you are using your copy of XP, and then they should give you a telephonic activation code to enter into the wizard.
