Working on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop, I found yesterday morning that my desktop was cluttered with 100 or more invalid icons. They are shortcuts to some pictures that I downloaded and put into a file in My Pictures. The icons showed up suddenly first thing in the morning when the computer came on. I painstakingly deleted them all, but the next time the screensaver came up, these icons showed up again. I put them all into a file and deleted that. First to recycle, then emptied recycle.
I was ,quite frankly, puzzled at the way this computer was acting. I searched for some way to right the thing using the Uniblue registry cleaner first, then a complete workup with System Mechanic afterwhich I left the computer to go out for the afternoon and when I came back, lo and behold, there they were. As I write this (the next morning), the icons sit on the desktop. My IE Icon was moved off the desktop and I now have to access it through the start menu.
I have no clue as to what this is all about, but I'm really getting tired of Vista acting like a bloody ghost in my computer. It keeps doing "things" that are very odd. Does anyone have an explanation or some way for me to get rid of these useless shortcuts?
