Strange Unread filter behavior

Question
-
This morning, I've got two threads in my My Threads page that just absolutely refuse to get filtered with the Unread filter. The threads are:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxbcl/thread/224a9ca2-fc07-4777-a30b-54f1a7bd1d49
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/clr/thread/30c57c64-2060-47ad-8cba-f7caf7fb20a2
Things I've verified:
- expand the preview many times
- open the thread in another tab many times
- log out and log back in
- refresh the page several times
- other threads are getting filtered like normal, just not these two.
They've acted this way for well over an hour now. Never seen this before. Sharding?

It isn't a reply so doesn't affect the last reply date listed.A few sneaky people have been using this as a way to Bump their posts without writing a reply or making any changes beyond adding a space.

Thanks, this is very helpful and totally rules out a few scenarios. I'll keep the thread updated as we dig further.

A strange problem with this thread:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vclanguage/thread/6e788278-281a-4fbb-a0fa-5108631873ad
Opposite problem, it would not show up in My Threads with the Unread filter turned on for 1:30 hours. I never saw the responses posted after my first post until my 2nd post. Which I made shortly after it became visible. My My Threads page was refreshed during this period many times, both by hand and automatically.
Is one and a half hours in the ballpark for synchronization delays?
Hans Passant. -
An hour and a half would be excessive. It should be seconds typically.
If you see this again, one thing that would help us would be to go to that Forum and click Unread and see if the thread shows or not compared to your My Threads view.

Here another thread:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/clr/thread/2492223f-1254-434f-97f8-b5fe152d2d0c
It didn't show up in my My Threads page for a full 20 hours. Unread filter turned on. That's painful, I rely on My Threads to keep communication going.

Another one, hiding for over two hours:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/clr/thread/359a9ba3-b995-4040-aae9-efdde8d6a921
I don't see any pattern. I assumed it was load-induced when the problems I reported at the start of this thread disappeared in the afternoon. Usually a quiet time when Europe and Asia pop open their beers. But this thread was hiding on Saturday morning, a very slow time of the week.
Do you have any lead at all what might cause this?
Hans Passant. -
Hans, I know your pattern is to use My Threads. Not sure how easy it would be, but if you could periodically check Unread within specific forums compared to My Threads. The paths are slightly different, where Forums specific is shard-local and My Threads is a cross shard aggregate. We'll investigate from our side as well, but any info like this would help narrow things down.
Thanks!

Once again I feel forced to point out that this is not only the situation with "My Threads".
It's also the situation with <PersonName> Threads.
I need as a Moderator to access <PersonName> Threads when I think that it is possible that the same thread has been posted in several forums.
Today I had two messages like that in one forum from two different people.
Message 1 had been posted 11 hours 41 mins earlier. I clicked on the person and then on his threads. There were No threads listed.
Message 2 had been posted 17 hours 25 mins earlier. I clicked on the (different) person and then on his threads. There were No threads listed.
Just as Hans needs to be able to rely on his MyThreads being up-to-date, I need to rely on <PersonName> Threads being up-to-date. Moderating is difficult enough without the tools provided to us failing to work as they should. -

Mike:
Are you sure about this? In my experience, editing, marking, voting, etc. do not bump a thread to the top of the list. Only replying does this.
In fact,it has been a gripe of mine that these actions (especially Marking as Answer) do not do this, or at least that there is not a "Last action" option in the sort criteria.
As it is, if you see your point score jump by 10 points because some OP or moderator has marked one of your posts as answer, there is no simple way to determine which post it was. If it got pushed to the top of "My Threads" then you would see it immediately.

Folks, puhleeeze let's keep this thread on topic. I don't give a hoot about OPs tweaking their thread ranking. The thread *not* being ranked properly with an *earlier* reply date was just another possible diagnostic for these sharding problems.
Hans Passant. -
Hans:
If you introduce extraneous information into the thread, people are going to comment on it.
Mike suggested a possible reason why a post would appear to be out of order (and thus why your observation about out-of-order posts might not be related to your original problem).
I replied that I did not think his suggestion was correct (and that therefore your observation might indeed be related to your original problem).

Only >replying does this.David,It certainly used to because I saw it happen several times.BUT, it doesn't now. I did a test yesterday on a thread I started in forum suggestions. That thread is still in the same place despite my editing the first message in the thread.Apologies for the wild goose chase. -
I'm seeing some updates to the forum software today. The problem reported in this thread is still there. Yet another diagnostic: one of these stuck threads is shown as "last reply by satbirSoni, a few seconds ago". It's been a few seconds ago for the past half hour.

I've got a new record holder for this problem. The 2nd response of the OP on this thread managed to hide from My Threads for 5 days.
