  • If you have the One Care trial installed open it, select "Subscribe" and when asked for a Live ID enter the Live ID and password used to purchase your subscription and One Care will activate. If you don;t yet have One Care installed, download the trial here - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/install/install.htm

  • Thank you.  I will try that.  Will I get billed for whatever I filled out/purchased last last night?  $49?

  • You paid $49 for a one year subscription to a product that you could have bought at Walmart for $29 in a fancy plastic case with the install DVD, or worse, a product that acording to the info officialy posted on this very web site is going to be dropped in less than one month now?

Don't ask for help here, ask for help from your credit card company canceling the charge.

You just paid $49 for a one year subscription of a service that is no longer going to exist in less than one month.

Once again, to clarify - subscriptions will be fully supported through end of term or the end of 2010, whichever comes first. A subscription purchased today, either online or using a retail key, will be fully supported for the next 12 months for up to 3 computers.

  • atrank,

I hope that means you're heading to the store to purchase a boxed copy?

Otherwise, you've missed the fact that it may be several months before the new Microsoft product is available and that OneCare itself will be supported through the end of your subscription in 2010, which Tony1967 didn't properly underestand when he wrote his post.

  • I did miss that, the message says retail will stop in June of this year, not that the new free version will be available then. I still think there is something wrong though with a product that costs you $49 to download directly from the source, yet only $29 to buy it in a case and on a disc in stores. That's just so backwards.

It is an absolutely great product, there is no doubt about that. Personally, I feel sad that its going to be free. Free to me means a much lower level of service and quality. $29 a year, even if that price was just for one PC is a great deal. I'd consider myself from time and experience an ANTI anti virus person, some products, like McAffe in particular cause more system slow downs and problems than the actual viri your trying to prevent would cause. It's also been my first hand experience that the majority of viri out there are so poorly written they don't even work should you be infected.

One Care has been the first product of this type I've ever found where I don't even notice it running yet it still works even better than the other options. I just wish they could have maintained the 800 support, the support reps at the 800 number were exceptional and this was a badly needed option. Online support does not work when your system is down, most of us these days no longer have several PC's, instead we've condensed down to one really good and high dollar laptop. When its down and can't get online, online support does no good what so ever, you need a phone number you can call and talk to someone who actually speaks your native language. $49 a year was well worth that level of service, when they dropped that option and maintained the price though, that just peed me off.

  • The new product is not the same as OneCare - it just uses the same scan/protection technology from the Microsoft Antimalware team. The same team provides the engine/signatures for Defender, Forefront and OneCare.
When Morro is released, it should be even lighter weight that OneCare as it will not have its own firewall, relying instead on the Windows Firewall. It also won't have the other bells and whistles of OneCare.
Note also that availability of Morro is 2nd half of 2009, not June.
