CRM 2011 Quick Campaign Email with Template, no Preview? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

I'm trying to create an email Quick Campaign for one of my marketing lists that uses a template that was created by another user. I am logged in as an administrator.

When I select the template (I can see all templates for the organization), I get nothing showing up in the Subject box, nor does the template preview in the email window.

This used to work fine in 4.0. Any suggestions what might be wrong?

    Cheers,

    Dave

  • There is no preview for the CRM 2011 Quick Campaign/Email Template - it will generate the merge after completing the Quick Campaign Wizare..  I would test the template out manaully first via selecting some test records and applying the template.

  • Hey Frank,

Correct me if I am wrong, but in 4.0, when you selected a template, the subject was autopopulated, and the email window actually showed the email template, correct? This was nice, as you could take an existing template, populate your email with that template, and then perform any final edits to that email before sending it out. Say for example your template has a date that you need to change, that could be accomplished in 4.0.

Are you telling me this has been removed in 2011?

  • Hi Dave,

Sending Quick Campaigns Emails with Email template feature was not available in CRM 4.0 standard functionlity, in CRM 4.0 you can only send simple email message. I believe you may be using some 3rd party CRM add on with Quick Capaigns.

For further clarifications you may refer: http://www.dynamicscare.com/blog/index.php/direct-email-vs-quick-campaign-email-when-should-you-use-which/

I hope this answers your question.

  • Jehanzeb,

You are right, it must have been a functionality of the 3rd party software I am using.  I guess it didn't get transitioned over to 2011, and the out-of-the-box functionality doesn't have a preview function.

I'll talk to my vendor to see about getting it added back in.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Hi, thanks Dave, yes, we now have this in VEM2011 - you can [Insert Template] inside a Quick Campaign to check and amend template content as an alternative to standard [Use Template] facility. Using VEM, personal templates can also be assigned and shared just like other entities - see www.vizola.com/vem
