Desktop Hub unable to access or be accessed by other two wireless notebooks RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Since Live OnceCare updated to the "hub & circle" system, my desktop, my main computer cannot access either of the two notebooks on the same network. Our printers are connected to my desktop, as well as the LAN.

Each wireless notebook can access each other and file share, but they cannot access the desktop hub.

All systems are set to sharing, including files, folders, printers, on all three computers.

I cannot find any more settings on my desktop that will open the network and allow all three computers to communicate.

This means that the wireless computers do not have access to the printers, nor can they share files with my desktop (essential).

I have tried calling Support, was given a service request number, but the support team IN INDIA, although available 24/7 told me that the technical support has all gone home for the day and would I please call back again during regular business (pacific time) hours. This is a problem for me as I reside in Japan and the time zones make this nearly impossible to do.

    Please help.

    Respectfully,

    Cameron

  • Steve,

Thank you very much. Excellent reply. Actually I was able to resolve my issue by doing something that I had not thought of earlier. After the update, although I had a network, I found that creating a new network with the same old name resolved the issues. It was strange why my desktop network was no longer valid, but somehow the updatd had changed it.

Your comment here on the power settings may be of use to others as well who work from notebooks.

    Thanks again.

  • Open OneCare on the desktop PC and click on Change Settings. On the Firewall tab, click on Advanced. Go to ports and protocols and set File and Printer Sharing Internet and local subnet to be checked, in addition to the subnet option. Also, make sure that there is only a single active network on the PC shown in the Connected networks tab and that it is shown as Home or Work.

Lately I've been playing with power settings on an XP and a Vista machine that refuse to sleep or suspend. I found that by going to the power management tab for my network adapters and checking the option to allow the adapter to shut down to save power, I was blocking network access to the PC as the adapter would shut down fairly quickly. Only by unchecking this could I be certain of connecting to the PCs over the network.

For reference, email support is 24x7. Phone and chat support times are set by the local Region. However, email support typically takes up to 24 hours to respond, so....
