  • I don't see how you can see that "many of my posts have points". I can't see any points in threads.

However to answer the question points are given for replies with additional points for posts that are marked as answers (though not your own) or marked as being helpful.

Posts have no value at all - they can't be converted into anything.

There are good only for bragging "I've got more points than you" and because it you get enough of them you get 1-5 crowns under your name.

Before you ask, crowns aren't worth anything (except bragging :) )

  • Well. My english is not so good so I can't fully understand your answer.

My question was because I see many times in the box at the left of the post, 1, 2 or 3 votes. I really don't care about the points. Maybe if the amount of points give us a Windows 7 for free, I will think in a different way.

Anyway. I still don't understad what this points are for.

    Thanks.

    Recognition System

What are these little medals under my Display Name?
The Forums now include a basic recognition system to gauge your participation in the community. Based on your actions, you are awarded points. Based on the number of points you earn, you get the medals.

    How are my points calculated?
You earn points based on the action you perform on the site. The following table lists the points that you earn for various actions.

Your reply is marked as the answer
Your reply is voted as being helpful

    Can I lose points?
Yes, you lose points that you gained if the post for which you gained the points is deleted or the post that you created contains an answer that is removed.

How long will it take my points to be awarded?
It may take up to 24 hours for points to be reflected by the system.

What should I do if I do not get the points I should receive?
There may be cases where you feel that the system has not properly awarded you points for a particular action. While we have taken precautions to cover all scenarios, errors may still occur. If you feel that your points are showing a significant error, please report it to the Bug Reporting Forum.

Why are my points at forums.microsoft.com different than this system? A user's recognition points in the current forums will be different than the forums.microsoft.com site. There were known issues in the way the old system awarded points. These issues have been addressed in the current system by processing a users points based on their total record of participation.

  • DrGerry's profile shows that he has one post marked as an Answer.  And looking at the activities page in his profile, he has multiple posts marked as helpful.

    But he has zero points.

He should have some number greater than zero (I can't see all of the posts, so I don't know what the number should be).

  • I see the discrepency.

    DrGerry should either have:

    Answers: 0
    Points: 0

    or

    Answers: 1
    Points: 10

DrGerry, please submit a service request to our support folks so they can further investigate the problem:

  • Also,

To clarify, I looked at your contributions (posts and thread submissions) in these forums and notice that majority are threads that you've started. You don't get points if you start a thread and reply to a post on a thread that you've started.

    Thanks.
